“To me, the music in this set communicates the dark, confusing feeling of desire when you’re a teenager.”
For the first instalment of Ears Have Ears Live, Sydney musician Marcus Whale (Collarbones, Scissorlock, BV) performed an experimental ‘imaginary soundtrack’ he wrote especially for the occasion. Entitled ‘2004’, the 20 minute performance included live vocals, spoken word and electronic production.
Sydney sound artist, curator, and teacher Pia Van Gelder led a discussion after the performance. They discussed his inspirations for the piece, including the poem ‘After School, Street Football, Eighth Grade’ by Dennis Cooper. Marcus also shared some news about his many other musical projects.
Watch the highlights from the intimate show below. Listen back to the whole performance and Q&A on the Ears Have Ears Podcast.
