VIDEO PREMIERE: Intelligent & intriguing, Sevy debuts with ‘Ting’

August 26th 2020

A fascinating debut solo single with an equally fascinating video to match, it’s Sydney rapper Sevy with ‘Ting’.

Following the recent release of collab track ‘Dogfight’ with Bayang, the second single from the pair’s upcoming tape is equally as engaging. Sevy’s debut solo single ‘Ting’ had a lot of talented cooks in its kitchen – produced by UTILITY, mixed by Berlin-based Cop Envy and mastered by Ryan Schwabe (Princess Nokia).

Released via local label Trackwork, making waves with recent releases from fellow up-and-comers T-Breezy and Snoee Badman, Sevy is part of a growing class of Sydney rappers serving intelligent, intriguing ~ trap with a twist ~ that simultaneously feels both global stage-friendly and hyperlocal.

On ‘Ting’, a tense sample-driven beat with a crisp drum pattern (evoking those favoured by Danny Brown or even early Tyler, the Creator) is here starkly contrasted with Sevy’s relaxed and confident vocal delivery. The video – filmed in an underground Sydney workers club – is super striking, eliciting Stanley Kubrick via primary colours and meticulously framed shots. All in all, debuts don’t come much stronger.

Catch the video for Sevy’s ‘Ting’ below. Keep an ear out for his collaborative tape with Bayang, set for release mid-September.
