Watch :: Gang Of Youths ‘Riverlands’ video

March 17th 2014

GOY

Gang of Youths are living large, having just killed it in their SXSW showcase.

But for those not lucky enough to be in Texas, they’ve shared something else very special: their first official video clip, accompanying the wonderful ‘Riverlands’. Ever since we got an early version of it last year, we’ve been in love with this track. Now the polished single is back to hit us in the feels once more with its highly emotive black & white clip.

Opening with a very close-up eye, the video proceeds to gaze deeply into two (very beautiful) people’s worlds as they each undergo their own personal transformation.

The clip is a stripped-back, monochrome exploration of the sadness of solitude reflected in Riverlands’ lyrics.

It compliments the music exquisitely, albeit doing nothing to help us understand the song’s meaning.

‘Riverlands’ is a slow burner with a sombre beat. You would be forgiven for thinking Leonard Cohen was about to chime in and harmonise. It’s a song that demands repeated listens, particularly when it’s raining outside and you’re safe in a darkened room, glass of red wine in hand and a single candle burning in the corner.

‘Riverlands’ is out now digitally.
