VIDEO PREMIERE: Jazz NOBODI takes the stand on ‘Tall Poppy’

October 8th 2020

A vigorous debut from yet another remarkable voice in the local hip hop game, it’s Jazz NOBODI with ‘Tall Poppy’. The track premiered this morning on Mornings with Eddy Diamond.

Written back in July, Jazz NOBODI’s ‘Tall Poppy’ was inspired by excerpts of Israel Adesanya’s NZ Sportsman of the Year acceptance speech, in which the martial artist touched on the normalisation of tall poppy syndrome. Jazz NOBODI has flipped that script:

“‘Tall Poppy’ represents taking ownership of your gifts. Being confident in what you do without having to downplay yourself. Something I’m still learning to do on this music journey.”

Downplay himself, he has not (and should not). ‘Tall Poppy’s drum patterns, dynamic vocals and catchy AF hook echo some of the most influential hip hop tracks of the last 10 years. Citing TDE powerhouses like Isaiah Rashad, Jay Rock and the almighty Kendrick Lamar as influences (his crew even claiming the title of “the Polynesian TDE”), Jazz NOBODI has done well to emulate that same intentional and commanding energy that the label has become synonymous with. It’s that same energy that will no doubt take the ever-growing Sydney rap scene – and the world – by storm.
