PREMIERE: The party’s not over on MAWiE’s ‘Last Night Was Too Lit’

June 24th 2020

Lockdown got you down? Missing the clubs? May we suggest the feel-good club-friendly vibes of Brisbane’s MAWiE as a remedy? His latest ‘Last Night Was Too Lit’ premiered on Arvos with Darren Lesaguis.

A quick scroll through MAWiE’s Instagram feed shows a slick, confident young songwriter. “Every beat in my heart is a hit song” reads one of his captions, and judging by his recent releases, this is far from a brag.

Following up from February’s ‘With Love’ (which amassed an impressive 65,000 Spotify streams in a month), the South-Sudanese-born Brisbane-based singer/songwriter is back with ‘Last Night Was Too Lit’, the perfect feel-good RnB banger to take you home from the party, or – if you’re the kick-ons kind – right on to the next one.

There’s that ever-so-slightly drowsy guitar riff that’s become a staple of contemporary Soundcloud rap & RnB. There’s a gritty trap drum beat, and MAWiE’s smooth and warm vocals are the perfect complement. On LTWTL, MAWiE’s assured voice wouldn’t sound at all out of place on a release from some of his more established RnB contemporaries, like Khalid or Benny Blanco. MAWiE is the type to make songwriting seem so damn easy.

The clubs are still shut for now (sad face), but ‘Last Night Was Too Lit’ will get you amped for all the good times to come. If nothing else, it’s a demonstration of a young artist who is sure to have a very bright future head of him.
