For a few months I’ve been looking at the line-up for the second OutsideIn Festival in wonder… It’s pretty hard to believe that for just one day of the year, some of the biggest up-and-comers in the global electronic music scene are converging upon Sydney’s humble Factory Theatre!

Headline act Zomby may have pulled the plug late in the game, but the strength of OutsideIn has never relied solely in its headline acts – rather, a depth and vibrancy of the line-up as a whole. From top to bottom of the bill, there are world-class acts with compelling live shows worth seeing. International and interstate acts aside, here are three must-see local picks for the day…

Astral People Presents The Avalanches’ ‘Since I Left You’

Shaping up to be one of the most beautiful local music collaborations ever, this world premier and OutsideIn exclusive will be a moment in Sydney music history not to be missed. Check Jonti, Rainbow Chan and the extended Astral People family bring The Avalanches’ magical album back to life in full, on the main stage from 5:55pm.

Golden Blonde

Local Sydney four-piece Golden Blonde will be kicking things off on the main stage at 2:15pm, having been voted in to the spot by you! These guys are one of the few live bands (as in ensembles) on the line-up, and have one of the most exciting and original live shows going around.

Their sound is impossible to pigeonhole, but you can expect an acoustic and electronic voodoo soup of rigid, skittering beats, choral melodies, brutal sub frequencies, loops and field recordings. If you’re a fan of DOOM, Radiohead, TV On The Radio, Björk and anything in between, be sure to check these guys out.

Elizabeth Rose

One of the biggest up-and-comers in the local music scene, it’s incredible to see how far Elizabeth Rose has come since handing her first demos in to FBi’s studios a couple of years ago. Just yesterday she took out the music category in the 2013 Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards!

Rose is a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist/producer with real musical talent, and with just one EP to her name, its mind-blowing to look at the fine list of collaborators she’s worked with over the past year or so. From remixing Chairlift to an in-the-pipeline project with Gotye, all the way to the sublime vocals she lent to the Flight Facilities lads on their most recent jam ‘I Didn’t Believe’, Rose’s set is sure to be an uplifting afternoon highlight that’ll set you up nicely for the rest of the night. Catch her on the main stage from 4:50pm.
