“The strange reality of making music is that you don’t know if it’s ever going to ‘come out’ or not, you don’t know if anyone’s going to appreciate it or hear it. Some of it just gets lost in the ether, lost in the cosmos, it becomes lost in the celestial scheme and you can’t take it back.

That was the real frightening thing for me… am I going to live to see the end of this album? And am I going to have a bunch of friends?”

 

Gang Of Youths lead singer and songwriter Dave Leaupepe caught up with Dom O’Connor, one show into a 24-date tour. Already battling with losing his voice – his biggest struggle on tour – Dave talks about the physical and emotional toll of making a record as deeply personal as The Positions. The word ‘cathartic’ gets thrown around a lot, and that’s okay.

He also plays an acoustic version of ‘The Overpass’ that will command your undivided attention from the opening chord.
