Jane Campion, for many, is the ABC-TV-movie-to-Palme-D’or blueprint.

A two-time Academy Award winner – including Best Director for 2021’s The Power of the Dog, Jane Campion dropped by FBi for Movies Movies Movies on Mornings with Maia Bilyk. The juggernaut filmmaker has a commanding career which has moved through short works, large features, American marvels, blockbuster television and small indies. Her focus on the feminine capacity to wreak havoc and harmony on the psyche has attracted the spirits of Hollywood heavyweights such as Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Meg Ryan and Pam Grier.

With Sydney Film Festival turning 70 this year and celebrating with a comprehensive Campion retrospective Film Lordes Jen Atherton and André Shannon thought it would be a good time to sit down with JC and see if she would validate them, which she does… by talking about George Lucas and American Zoetrope and showing how low funded, unsupported, experimental, groundbreaking, industry-disruptive and ultimately poetic film works will always have a place in our hearts.
