Independent Artist Of The Week: Dannika

August 22nd 2016

Horizontal (HI RES)

Dannika create soft and simple lo-fi rock, with candid lyrics taken straight from diary entries.

The project started when Dannika Horvat bought a cheap bass online and started writing music on her own. After showing her songs to Liam Parsons (Good Morning), they decided to join forces and Dannika expanded to a four-piece.

In April, they released the hazy single ‘Next To You’, described in Dannika’s words as a “sleepy, mellow song about waking up in bed with someone”. This delicate, understated love song had us hooked, and a month later the band released their sedative debut EP, For Peaches, via Solitaire Recordings.

Shortly after releasing ‘Next To You’, Horvat won best director for her film The Summer of ABC Burns at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival. Clearly she’s a force to be reckoned with!
