Feature films on microbudgets: Imogen McCluskey on her debut Suburban Wildlife

  • Imogen McCluskey :: Interview with Jack and André on MMM

On Movies Movies Movies this week, resident filmlordes Jack and André chat with local filmmaker Imogen McCluskey about her ambitious feature film debut Suburban Wildlife. Imogen pulled off the near-impossible: making a full-length film with next to no money (something that really resonates with us as a community radio station!)

The film satisfies the local scene’s craving for authentic stories about growing up in Australia made by young creatives. Shot all over Sydney with a crew of emerging local artists, Suburban Wildlife follows four friends who find themselves at a crossroads when their dreams and ambitions start to collide in unexpected ways.

Suburban Wildlife is a coming-of-age film set on hot tarmac, in brick houses, during sweaty summers, with an exciting crop of female and queer talent. Shot over 2 weeks and made with $4K of community donations, and loads of life and energy, Suburban Wildlife is one of the most exciting Australian debuts in years.
