FBi Radio celebrates International Women’s Day 2018

March 8 is International Women’s Day! All day long, we’re spinning female and femme-identifying artists.

Tune in throughout the day to hear from fierce and inspiring women who are total bosses in their fields – from science to sound art, transgender visibility to music production. Here’s what’s coming up…

Up For It with Ruby Miles (6-9am)

First up, Ruby will be bringing you plenty of brekkie bangers from artists who have expanded concepts of female identity in music. At 7:20am, Caitlin Medcalf will be dropping by for a special edition of Women’s Crush, featuring Beatrice Lewis (Kardajala Kirridarra and Haiku Hands). Then on Kings & Queens, Kat Dopper will be letting us in on the latest female, GNC and trans news in the queer community.

Mornings with Alex Pye (9am-12pm)

At 9:15am, Alex Pye chats to Electric Lady organiser Holly Rankin (also known as Jack River) about her all-female “mini-festival”. Then at 10:00am, Canberra-based rockers Moaning Lisa are dropping by for a chat, before activist Sally Goldner explores transgender issues and visibility. At 11:30am, musician, artist and writer Del Lumanta chats bro culture in the music scene.

Out Of The Box with Lucy Smith (12-1pm)

Guest-hosted by Lucy Smith, Out Of The Box features Leigh Nicholson, a cancer researcher currently completing a PhD and advocate for Women in STEM. Tune in to hear some fave tunes and what they mean to her.

Lunch with Maia Bilyk (1-3pm)

Musician, engineer and audio producer Antonia Gauci (Gauci, Leftenant) will be stopping by for a chat about women in the music industry before Maia launches into her weekly Fangirl segment. Don’t miss it!

Arvos with Women In The Arts (3-6pm)

You might recognise Katie Winten and Isabelle Hore-Thorburn from Agenda – your Saturday morning fix of art, politics, news and trash from a feminist perspective.

They’ve got a huge host of guests lined up! Tune in to hear from Deborah Kelly talking us through 52 Artists 52 Actions at Artspace, as well as an interview with Dr Astrida Neimanis about the relationship between feminism and environmental humanities.

Katie and Isabelle will also be chatting with Denise O’Dea about a Women in Wikipedia edit-a-thon, Wollongong trio Sook about Girls In The Gong, Dr Astrida Neimanis on the relationship between feminist theory and environmental humanities and Nayuka Gorrie about feminism and the LGBTQI community.

Sunset - Nectar Takeover (6-8pm)

It’s a Nectar takeover! Sydney party starters Andy Garvey and Tia Newling will be in the mix, taking you through til 8pm.

The Bridge with Tia Newling (8-9pm)

Tune in for a playlist of 100% female produced/driven tracks! Tia will be joined by Sydney producer Jikuroux, guest programming her favourite international and local club tracks, and taking us through why she loves them.

Ears Have Ears with Brooke Olsen & Scarlett Di Maio (9-11pm)

Ears Have Ears will be showcasing an exclusive mix by Sydney sound artist Gail Priest, showcasing women featured on Audible Women, an online directory Gail founded for women who make sound art, noise and electronic music with an experimental and exploratory bent.

Glitches with Seduna (11pm-1am)

Seduna will be flying solo on Glitches tonight. She’ll be taking you through a slew of A+ tunes and chatting with Brynn Davies who owns and operates lunchbox – an online music publication.
