The Grates on reuniting and reigniting the hustle

December 13th 2018

  • The Grates :: Interview and live track on Jack Off with Jack Shit

Life comes full circle: countless years after debuting their first demo (Trampoline) on-air, Jack Shit welcomed the irrepressible energy of The Grates into the studio for a chat and a live rendition of ‘Rock Boys’, on the arvo of their first show since reuniting.

The interview was recorded on the eve of a four-date reunion tour, which wraps up this weekend at a sold out Tivoli in Brisbane, and we find the band wrestling with profound change. It is the literal last day of the lease of their Southside Tea Room – the iconic Brisbane institution founded by Patience and John 6 years ago, a business they decided to wind up in favour of more time for parenting, creativity and ‘hustle’. So busy have they been that it took their 96 year-old neighbour Dulcie to remind them in the street on this morning that it was also their wedding anniversary!

Meanwhile Alana has also abandoned the exhausting work of hospitality and traded being a pastry chef for walking dogs (one at a time) in Manhattan. All three members are clearly thrilled to be back in the natural rhythm of their enduring friendship – openly manifesting love, glee and gratitude whilst keenly anticipating the four dates of the tour.

Tune in to Jack Off with Jack Shit every Saturday at 3pm.
