Preview :: Red Bull Music Academy Info Session

March 4th 2012

What do Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Katy B and Onra all have in common?

Well, they’re all fabulous… but what else? They’ve all got the same little somethin-somethin on their resume: Red Bull Music Academy.

It’s the ultimate school-of-rock: a world-travelling music lab that takes over a different city each year for five weeks of workshops, concerts, club nights and other shenanigans pertaining to sonic bliss. Over two fortnight-long ‘terms’, two groups of 30 successful applicants attend lectures by musical pioneers and work on their own tunes in custom-built studios. By night, they have the chance to perform in some of the host city’s most iconic clubs and concert halls.

Sounds pretty much like THE DREAM, right? So how do you get your name on that alumni list?!

Red Bull Music Academy 2012 will be setting up camp in New York from September 30 til November 2, 2012. Applications are open to producers, vocalists, instrumentalists and DJs across all genres who will be at least 21 years of age by September 30, 2012.

RBMA are having an information session at FBi Social this Thursday, where you can learn more about the Academy and the ins and outs of the application process. Special guest Roots Manuva will be coming along for a chat, sharing some personal and industry knowledge. Another academy super-alumnus Dizz1 will also be there for an Ableton Live workshop. It’ll be a great way to taste-test the Academy experience and boost your chances of scoring a ticket to DA BIG APPLE.

If you need any more encouragement, have a peek at what participants got up to in RBMA 2011 in Madrid: you can download the fruits of their labour as a 30-track compilation, Various Assets: Not For Sale. Check it out below, or download the whole thing here.
