You’ve probably known Gideon Bensen for a while, as the leather clad guitarist and vocalist for The Preatures. Now you need to know his name as a solo artist.

On the strength of his debut single ‘All New Low’ – full of rock’n’roll grit and dirty soul – Gideon played one of his first solo shows at the FBi SMACs Festival on January 10. It didn’t sound like an early show, the guy’s had some practice after all. Slick guitars, exuberant vocals and a guest appearance from Montaigne certainly got our attention.

Brisbane disco house specialist Tyler Touché has flipped the track’s dark groove into a slap-bass riff with so much funk it should almost be illegal. The gravelly intensity of the original meets with smooth, echoing keys and dripping synths, transforming ‘All New Low’ into a driving, upbeat party jam.
