host David Capra sat down with Paulini Curuenavuli.

We were introduced to her as the brightest, smiliest contestant on Australian Idol back in 2003. Now she’s touring the country playing Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard musical (yes, that was Whitney Houston’s character, and yes, she does get to sing that song).

1. She’s always been obsessed with Whitney Houston.

“For my sisters, and myself, she was very iconic because it was great to see a beautiful black woman doing her thing, at the top of her game.”

2. She attributes much of her love of music to going to school in Western Sydney.

“I loved growing up in the west side of Sydney, just because it was just so multicultural. Just to see all the different types of music, and ethnic instruments…I learnt so much from it.”

3. She’s wanted to play the lead in The Bodyguard for four years.

“I saw it four years ago, on the West End, and afterwards I told my manager I wanted that role.”
