Panda Bear: “A Burger Did This To Me”

December 11th 2018

  • Panda Bear :: Interview with Robbie Armfield on Mornings

What does Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear have in common with the cuddly Chinese native with which he shares his name? A rigidly restricted diet, anxiety about the future of the species and a flair for experimental pop music.

Lennox, a founding member of US indie pop royalty Animal Collective who now resides in Portugal, sat down with Robbie Armfield (Robbie’s Modern Life, Mornings) to discuss all things Portuguese gentrification, That’s Life magazine, and Panda Bear’s upcoming album, ahead of gracing the Opera House stage with his ethereal live show.

Our first taster of the incoming record ‘Buoys’ (out February 8th on Domino) is the beautifully stark ‘Dolphin’ which marks a very noticeable shift in his vocal and production techniques.

Listen back up top to their sprawling dialogue, which offers rare glimpses into the motivation behind this shift in approach, Lennox’s nil-by-mouth pre-show regimen, his preference for burger-related tabloid content, and the hard-hitting reality of #lisbondadlife.
