Listen :: The Bedroom Philosopher Diaries

September 5th 2012

In gridiron football, a triple threat is a player with spectacular skills in running, passing and kicking. Wrestling uses the term to refer to a match involving three professional wrestlers.  On the stage, a triple threat is one who can dance, sing and act, which is a little closer to the mark, because as Justin Heazlewood will tell you, he’s hardly the sporting type. Having made something of a career out of being skinny, hungover and hanging out in Northcote, The Bedroom Philosopher is his own kind of triple threat; combining comedy, music and writing in the live performance of his book The Bedroom Philosopher Diaries. Coming to Sydney this week, the show includes sneak peeks of an album due for release later this year as well as extracts from his book, a self-reflective compendium of tales rendered in his signature wry style.

Here’s a little audio squiz of the book, as he tells the disastrous story of his attempt to pick up after DJing at Purple Sneakers a few years back.

He’ll be accompanied by his Awkwardstra, and for the Sydney show local ladies Zoe Coombs Marr and Sabrina D’Angelo will be doing intelligent, funny things on the stage beforehand.

Originally from Tasmania, The Bedroom Philosopher, aka Justin Heazlewood, has performed at numerous festivals including Big Day Out, Falls Festival, and Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as being nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release in 2010 for the album Songs from the 86 Tram. You know, So Hungover.
