Listen :: JaysWays feat. Nicole Millar – ‘Infinity’

March 31st 2014

JaysWays

JaysWays is very careful when releasing music to the public. His SoundCloud page is a collection of mostly stream-only music that can be enjoyed but never owned, so when the Epilogue EP popped up online, it came with an implied guarantee of quality.

That implication rings true, especially with the lead track, ‘Infinity’. Fusing club-centric bass growls with a breathy atmosphere, it makes for some surprisingly well-balanced Sydney music. It’s possible to imagine some sort of cyborg sea creature communicating long distances with these strange, gutteral vibrations in the bass spectrum – a sound which Melbourne producer Opiou also takes advantage of, but in a much more lively way than JaysWays does here. The Sydneysider’s approach does work though, especially with the help of Nicole Millar’s wispy vocals floating over the whole thing.

Millar has had a lot of success with her recent Peking Duk and Golden Features collaborations, so she brings an extra wave of well-deserved attention to this quietly achieving seventeen year old producer.

You can stream ‘Infinity’ below and buy the EP here.
