wordlife make “futuristic bass music with a mission to bring sex back to the raves of the world.” Not sold yet? What’s wrong with you, sex-hater?

The sex comes courtesy of bearded DJ/producer duo Kato (from FBi's Thursday night Sunset) and Adam Bozzetto; together, they are wordlife. Over the past year the two have remixed the likes of The Bumblebeez, Teki Latex, Funkin’ Matt, Heavyfeet and Anna Lunoe. Their debut EP Birth, Punk, Rap, House, Life dropped last week on the infamous Bang Gang label. Amidst a packed warehouse party the boys played an explosive mix of distorted disco and electrified booty-shaking techno.

The record sees the imaginative buds blending past and present sounds. Throw in some batty bass lines and off-kilter bleeps and tweaks and the result is some seriously fun stuff. 'Dry Like That' evokes Lone with its throwback Detroit sound and the RnB vocals on 'Hot Tube' add a nice dimension to a track that might just have easily been instrumental.

wordlife are here to prove techno is alive and well in Sydney, all set to make your feet hurt and your ears melt. Flog caught up with the guys for a chat about the new project.

FBi: How did you meet?

wordlife: We've known each other awhile from DJing and similar groups of friends. One night we were at the Flinders hanging out drinking and we decided to try and get together to make some music and we discovered we clicked.

Where did the name come from?

Ah, it's a saying a mate of mine B.E. used to say a lot but it comes from rap music, it's kind of a longer variation on saying 'word'. There is a track called “Word…Life” by O.C. worth checking out.

Can you describe your sound in five words?

Futuristic bass heavy sex epics.

What’s the first record you ever bought?

Buffalo Stance by Neneh Cherry.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

New stuff right now, it's all about Lone, Hudson Mohawke, Rustie, SBTRKT, Clicks & Whistles, Panteros666, Jamie Jones, Canblaster, GoldFFinch, Jamie XX, Ango, Brandt Brauer Frick, Scuba, Breach, Addison Groove, MachineDrum, Eats Everything plus classic rave, house, disco funk and techno music and labels like Sound Pellegrino, Numbers, Marble, LuckyMe, Warp and DJs like Jackmaster, Oneman, Claude VonStroke and Justin Martin.

Do you like DJing, producing or putting on parties more?

All things are fun in different ways but production and DJing are where it's at for us at the moment.
