Slick and infectious, Kwame is ready to lead Australia’s new gen of hip hop.
The 20 year old from Western Sydney’s vision is strong and informed; he’s intent on making his mark while also supporting his peers in the process. “I make music to inspire, break boundaries and open doors for the next generation to come. Soon enough Australian hip hop will be seen across the world and up with the heavyweights,” he says.
Joining an increasing list of writer/producer/performers who are creating complex jams straight out of their bedrooms, Kwame sets himself apart in the way he harmoniously collates excited ideas with a cool assurance. On his new EP ‘Endless Conversations’, he switches things up with 80s sax and choir harmonies. In drawing influence from major American contemporaries, even managing to impress A$AP Ferg along the way, Kwame has found a sound that is entirely his own.
The EP’s lead single, Wow, kicks off with a word that says it all – “damn”. A bouncy, exciting track full of energy and attitude, Wow explores Kwame’s personal growth as an artist while reflecting upon his roots in Sydney via New Zealand. It’s a killer indication of what he’s capable of.
Do yourself a favour and catch him live this weekend – we’ve got a feeling Kwame won’t be playing shows this intimate for much longer.
