Independent Artist Of The Week :: BUOY

April 15th 2015

BUOY

Buoy, oh Buoy, we’re loving this Sydney artist.

Allowing the weird and wacky tunes to stay afloat in our local music scene is Sydney vocalist & producer, BUOY. Active since January of 2014, her resume already boasts a list of achievements, including taking out Spotify’s Spotlight Artist Of The Week (March, 2015), supporting Mammals on their 2014 national tour, and signing to October Records; a roster shared by the likes of Frames & Elizabeth RoseThe Kite String TangleRibongia and Amateur Dance.

Gearing up to release her debut EP, Immersion, October Records have dropped its first single, ‘Took Me Up’.

An industrial sounding complex, ‘Took Me Up’ prowls in with a dense purr, before the suppressed vocals of BUOY attempt to pave their way into the busy space. Soon overshadowing the dominant sonic wall, BUOY’s heavenly execution lifts itself over a series of metallic beats and jaded samples; a rare gleam of beauty against the contrasting backdrop.

Extremely left-of-field, we can’t wait to see how BUOY has approached the entirety of her debut EP; due for release on Friday, 5th June via October Records. We’ve been promised another single to tide us over until then though – so keep up to date with BUOY on her Facebook page.

Tune into Up For It every Tuesday morning for your new Independent Artist Of The Week.
