LISTEN TO FOR THE RECORD: PURE SPACE

Since 2016, Sydney-via-Canberra DJ, producer and radio host Andy Garvey has been exploring the darker, more intergalactic shades of electro, techno and breakbeat through her various, carefully curated mediums. Pure Space, which begun as an eponymous show on FBi Radio, is her all-Australian, constantly forward-looking imprint featuring both music geared for the club and for spacious, serene home listening in equal measures.

Having released tracks by Reptant, Rings Around Saturn, E Davd, Roy Mills, Jennifer Loveless and more, the sonic identity of Pure Space is complimented by one of the most distinct and complete visual identities attached to a label, with digital art crafted by close friend Sophie Penkethman-Young. A notable artist in her own right, having released music on Lobster Theremin under her own name, Garvey’s contribution to the Australian electronic underground has been enormous.

Talking For The Record through the story of Pure Space, Garvey spoke about transitioning Pure Space from a radio show to a record label, the relationship between the two, the value of physical media to independent labels and more.
