Five Picks for the Sydney Fringe Comedy Festival

August 12th 2016

It’s time again once more for the Sydney Comedy Festival, and September is jam-packed with great acts that will make you laugh, cry, and experience all the emotions in between. FBi’s comedy expert Aaron Chen has had a browse of what’s on offer and cooked up this list of the top 5 comedy acts on show at this year’s festival.

Pure Gold

Who: Becky Lucas, Cameron James & Gen Fricker
When: 7pm, September 20-25
Where: The Factory Theatre – 105 Victoria Rd, Marrickville
Why: Three of Sydney’s established and best trying out new material.

Comedy Clim Clam

Who: Clinton Hains
When: 9:30pm, September 7+9
Where: The Factory Theatre – 105 Victoria Rd, Marrickville
Why: Genre-defying and boundary pushing alternative comedy. Plays with form and you’ll likely see music and crazy stunts/magic. 2016 MICF Raw Comedy Runner Up. Great if you love weirdos doing comedy. Darkly funny progressive comedy.

The Prettiest Horse in the Glue Factory

Who: Corey White
When: 8:15pm, September 20-24
Where: The Factory Theatre – 105 Victoria Rd, Marrickville
Why: Often political and deeply personal, Corey’s comedy explores the depths of humanity and himself. He won Best Newcomer at MICF in 2015.

Piranha Banana Llamarama

Who: Penny Greenhalgh
When: 9-10pm, September 9-10
Where: Giant Dwarf Theatre – 199 Cleveland St, Redfern
Why: Fun, silly clowning, often embedded in personal experiences.

0439 211 892

Who: Sam Campbell
When: 9:30pm – September 20,22,24
Where: The Factory Theatre – 105 Victoria Rd, Marrickville
Why: Sam uses his real phone number as the title for the show. He is known for his frenetic energy and being generally ‘weird, crass and absurd’. Multi-award winner, real zany and loose.
