Fade Up :: Jad & The Ladyboy
March 25th 2014
Every week, Fade Up sets you up on a hot date with an emerging Australian producer who Sandro Dallarmi thinks are worth getting to know. You can hear the new Fade Up mixtape before it hits the Flog by tuning into Sandro’s show on FBi, The Mixing Bowl.
Jad Lee is so intent on splitting himself between different creative endeavors (Mitzi, Twiggy Lashes, and now this) that it’s come to the point where he’s in a production duo with himself. Jad and the undefined Ladyboy make heads-down-arms-out house music from their home on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. If you listen to the resulting music in a darkened room for long enough, you too might feel yourself developing an alter ego.
Meet Jad & The Ladyboy
Sandro Dallarmi :: You’re gaining traction online, but there’s often a difficulty in translating Soundcloud clicks to local attention. Is this something you’ve experienced?
Jad & The Ladyboy :: Yeah its a hard thing to identify really. I see people who I think are quite amazing and established receiving minimal SoundCloud action and then I see the opposite with new emerging artists whose music/production doesn’t warrant the action. I guess as far as I can tell by SoundCloud stats, most of my plays and follows come from outside of Australia. All of my releases have been on overseas labels so maybe that makes sense.
How has this project influenced your involvement with Mitzi, and vice versa?
I’m not really sure. My approach to songwriting approach has remained the same for both but I guess working with those dudes has improved my production and songwriting when working on more club-focused Jad & The Ladyboy material for sure.
I’ve gotta ask…this is a solo project, so who is this mysterious Ladyboy?
It’s a shadow I’ll never shake.
