Pat Brassington: The Body Electric

In her work, domestic spaces are recast in an eerie light and bodies confound our expectations of anatomy. Distorted, however subtly, through digital manipulation, they are abject and anxious, fluid and flexible. Draped in sinister shadows or segmented into body parts, Brassington’s figures are, at once, intimate and alien.

Out of the ordinary

Drawn from the Gallery’s ARTAND Emerging Artist Collection, the exhibition provides a snapshot of the breadth of artistic practice emerging in Australia and New Zealand during the early 2000s.

Container

Colourful metal boxes will be scattered like giant Lego pieces in what will be the Australian National Maritime Museum’s very first outdoor exhibition. Each box will reveal the secrets of how the shipping container has shaped our modern world, changing the way we produce, shop, eat, work and live.

Opening Night - The Story of The Girls - Tom Pender & Ben Mercer

Tom Pender and Ben Mercer found themselves making artistic muses out of sets of dolls, which they came to know as The Girls. Over the years, The Girls came to anchor much of their artistry as queer men unbound to a homophobic world. Now, they tell a story of friendship that has blossomed 25 years worth of artistic practice.

Metamorphoses

Adapted from the ancient writings of Greek poet Ovid, Metamorphoses collides the elements of time, space, water and the body in to a story of love’s persistence, and endurance in the face of adversity.

ArtExpress 2018

ArtExpress is an annual exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW that draws from the highest achieving Visual Arts students in the Higher School Certificate. This year, the selections were made from a cohort of 9,097 Visual Arts students from schools across the state, and include a wide range of styles and mediums. ArtExpress 2018 provides insight to student creativity and the issues that are important among them.

Fall in Love in February

World-renowned contemporary Australian artists, Gillie and Marc, are spreading the love through their curated exhibition titled ‘Fall in Love in February’. The artists, famous for their love bird characters Rabbitgirl and Dogman, are celebrating Valentine’s Day with this month-long exhibition inspired by romance, emotion, friendship, passion and all things love.

We know the landscape to be the subject of more art than we can possibly fathom, across cultures. But how might it have gained social and political layers over time? This exhibition explores them, with the aim to create a better understanding of its various relationships to art and the world.

Constructing Fantastical Worlds: An evening of fashion & photography

Future Artefacts is an exhibition currently on show at ADC that brings together fashion designer Alexi Freeman, contemporary jeweller Tessa Blazey, and photographic artist Jane Burton in a collaborative project that is conceptually underpinned by a fascination with science fiction, archaeology and intricate craftsmanship.

Tempered II Journal Launch: Panels and Performances

TEMPERED II is a collaborative music journal about backwater Australian music, and is a follow up to the first volume published through MoodWarin 2016. It expands upon discussions of power, gender and independence, and shifts its focus towards space, class, autonomy and relocation. Offering perspective from those who have contributed to Australia’s underground music communities, it provides a window into what drives local underground art, and declares a space from which to improve it.
