Tuesday: Mixed Media Exhibition on Creative Process

Obsessed: Compelled

Obsessed: Compelled to make explores the preoccupations that drive the creative process, moving beyond the finished work, to tell the hidden stories of making, uncovering the artists’ inspirations, day-to-day studio experiences, hours of expertise, and the joys and frustrations of obsession.

These makers have been chosen from across the spectrum of making – textiles, ceramics, furniture, metalwork, jewellery, conceptual art, glass blowing and sculptural weaving. The project is accompanied by a series of films and a full-length catalogue.

First Draft Gallery March - April Exhibitions

First draft will open four new exhibitions this week:
’I want to be made out of love, I want to be made into life’ by Harrie McKay, ‘By Proximity’ by Georgia Morgan, ‘blue dipped ignition’ from Ichikawa Edward, and ‘This one goes out to the one(s) I love’ from Amelia Skelton.

Eucalyptusdom

“Eucalyptusdom is an exhibition that reckons with our cultural history and ever-changing relationship with the gum tree, presenting over 400 objects from the Powerhouse Collection alongside 17 newly commissioned works by creative practitioners working across the fields of design, architecture, film, applied arts and performance.

“To coincide with the multi-disciplinary exhibition Powerhouse Late: Eucalyptusdom will present newly-commissioned works by contemporary artist Justine Youssef and designer Alia Parker alongside live music from Biliirr and DJ set by del lumanta.”

Destroy, She Said

“Alone in a hotel, Elisabeth is being watched. After the loss of her baby, Elisabeth, haunted by grief, withdraws from reality to convalesce. Captivated by her presence, hotel guests Max Thor and Stein observe her trance-like state. But when Max’s young wife Alissa arrives, the veneer of rest and recuperation comes crashing down. In the confines of this desolate place, Max, Alissa and Stein enter into a dangerous game with their fragile companion.”

Absolut x Heaps Gay: ‘The Roast’

“The not-so-traditional Sunday feast boasts a stacked lineup of the country’s most talented queer artists, including a slew of surprise guests. Amongst the curation is Sydney-based Mangarai First Nations queen Tyra Bankstown and the Blak Moles and QTBIPOC collective House of Silky, while Paul Mac and Johnny Seymour of Stereogamous and Timothy & The Heart Strings will ensure the music never drops a beat, as you celebrate your chosen fam.
