Melbourne singer/songwriter Angie McMahon’s new single ‘Letting Go’ is a big-hearted rock song about embracing the lessons that can come from making mistakes. Through both its lyrics and soaring crescendos, the song feels like a big release. And maybe also a warm hug. All at once.

A lot has happened in the four years since Angie McMahon broke out with her stunning debut album Salt. The album wormed its way into many a sensitive souls hearts, the world was hit with a global pandemic, Angie’s voice was sampled by man of the moment Fred again.. who would go on to play it to roaring crowds around the world (see: Fred closing out his now-viral Boiler Room set with the song), and in between all of this, she wrote a new album.

Angie came into FBi Radio and sat down with Ben Hansen on Mornings to discuss her new album Light, Dark, Light Again (slated for October), and the the first two singles from the release, the ethereal ‘Saturn Returning’ and the absolutely anthemic ‘Letting Go’. She also blessed FBi Radio listeners with a live in-studio rendition of the latter.

Light, Dark, Light Again is built on feelings of hope and positive affirmation and was created in the stunning surrounds of Durham, North Carolina in collaboration with an all-star cast including producer Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Waxahatchee, Snail Mail), Bon Iver drummer Matt McCaugan and Leif Vollebekk whose vocals were on pervious Angie McMahon single ‘If You Call’.

Angie and Ben discussed how the album took shape, the feeling of seeing your vocals played to tens of thousands of people at festivals around the world, ‘Letting Go’s place in the pantheon of car sing-a-long anthems and the importance of listening to music and shaking out your feelings.
