The Age called him a Man Of Many Monikers; British tunesmaster Dev Hynes indeed wears many a hat. Formerly known as Lightspeed Champion and a member of the short-lived punk-dance outfit Test Icicles, Hynes has written for the likes of Florence and the Machine, The Chemical Brothers and Theophilus London, he’s played onstage with CANT, Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys), Faris Badwan (The Horrors), Keith Murray (We Are Scientists) and has done an entire performance for NME dressing his band up as Star Wars characters, including Princess Leia on the sticks.

He was also voted the 49th ‘coolest person in rock’ in NME’s Cool List. Yep. It’s a thing.

Hynes’ new alias Blood Orange is his latest on the hat rack. After releasing his debut Blood Orange LP Coastal Grooves last year, Hynes has been seducing audiences with his infectious sound left right and centre. His new project sees him acquire a higher level of sophisticated pop sensibility, cranking clever beats, velvety vocals and downright smooth tunes.

Hynes came in to the studio for a wee chat with Shag on Arvos and let us tag along to his Goodgod show to make a sweet vid for the first in our Studio to Stage series created by FBi videomaster Aidan Keogh.
