SMAC OF THE YEAR: John Wardle

The 2009 SMAC of The Year winner has made an outstanding contribution to the cultural fabric of Sydney. Muso turned political activist John Wardle was relentless in campaigning to abolish the Place of Public Entertainment licences (POPEs). Thanks to his Raise the Bar campaign on liquor licensing in NSW, pubs can freely put on acoustic nights or have a live DJ – instead of whacking a Chumbawumba CD on loop.
