Independent Artist Of The Week: Ruby Fields

September 4th 2017

ATARs, beers with mates and being on your P plates. Ruby Fields is the self-confessed “average chick” turning teen Australiana into damn good songwriting.

The nineteen year old DIY fanatic takes her dry sense of humour and pairs it with driving guitar hooks and heavy drums. On ‘P Plates’, a track Fields describes as “hopefully her only semi love song ever”, she makes plans with mates and dates to “catch up for a coupla’ coupla’s” before regretting not being able to “stay for cones/cause I drove.” It’s a fist-pumping slice of cheeky indie rock.

Having taught herself to play guitar by watching Youtube videos from a young age, it’s only fitting that her first music video was born of her own volition aswell. Directing, conceptualising, casting and executing the visuals for ‘P Plates’, Fields shot with friends, her grandma and her adorable dog in her hometown of Cronulla.

Crack a cold one and check it out below, before Fieldzy takes her P plates on tour across the country this November.
