Independent Artist Of The Week: Gussy

October 3rd 2017

Local multi-disciplinary artist Gussy creates sounds that are as powerful as they are elegant. It’s an experimental approach that’s built on stunning synth-driven soundscapes and strong vocals.

As a classically trained dancer and filmmaker, Gussy’s background lends itself to a consistent sense of poise and precision in everything they do. An ability to simultaneously harness both grace and power runs through their work; a vulnerability that’s met with confidence to produce an entirely captivating audio-visual experience.

Gussy’s latest single ‘In Order to Love’ was co-produced by Adelaide’s Lonelyspeck, with mastering and engineering by Jessica Cooper and Sydney artist Marcus Whale (BV, Collarbones, Scissor Lock, Tennis Boys). Following on from the irresistibly catchy ‘Mornings’, it’s a profound track that’s largely driven by Gussy’s bold vocal tone, softly glittered with simple electronic beats. Although it’s an exploration of questions that may never be answered, Gussy insists that “screaming them from the rooftops can do a world of good”.
