Outskirts Reporting: Community Journalism Masterclass

Date

Location

Bankstown Arts Centre / FBi Radio

Do you have a passion for telling news? Are you aged 18 – 28 years old and want to see more balance and diversity in the media? Are you tired of media reporting on issues of terrorism that reinforces negative stereotypes? Reckon you could do it better? Show us how!

Multicultural NSW, through its online project The Point Magazine, has teamed up with FBi’s current affairs program Backchat, ABC journalists, and BYDS’ “Mapping Frictions: Stories from Western Sydney”, to present ‘Outskirts Reporting: A Masterclass in Community Journalism’.

We are looking to develop and support emerging young media professionals from culturally diverse backgrounds to produce their own media interventions into current topical issues like violent extremism, race, and encourage diversity in journalism.

We’ll be holding two full-day workshops led by some of Sydney’s best award-winning journalists to teach you how to take news stories from an idea through to the finished product. The workshops will be held at Bankstown Arts Centre and FBi Studios on May 28th and June 4th.
