It’s been three years and two world tours since LA quartet Warpaint first played in Australia. Since then they’ve tilted their murky art-rock jams towards the dancefloor – and the sort of high-octane performance befitting their Concert Hall debut in the Opera House’s summer music program, Saturday 25 February 2017.
After debuting with the Exquisite Corpse EP, the original trio – Emily Kokal and Theresa Wayman on guitar, Jenny Lee Lindberg on bass – found their secret weapon in Sydney’s own Stella Mozgawa on drums, releasing full-length albums The Fool, Warpaint and this year’s Heads Up.
Squarely fronting the rhythms of Stella and Jenny, Heads Up channels the vigor of Warpaint’s stage performances while still delivering their songs with what The Guardian has called an “impressionistic delicacy.”
