FBi Radio survives because an amazing bunch of people give up their precious time to come and help us out. Both on air and behind the scenes, our volunteers keep the station running, and there’s always plenty of work to be done!
There are a large number of roles for volunteers at the station starting with front desk duties, working in the music library, communications, membership, sales and promotion, producing or presenting on air. You could be just starting out and looking for some general experience, or you could be a super-skilled champion looking to help us out with event management, graphic design or any number of more specialised areas.
We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to at least one half day a week for a minimum of 6 months (but hopefully you’ll continue on after that) and you’ll need to be a current FBi Supporter, just like all staff and presenters.
We get tonnes of applications so in order to make sure we give existing volunteers solid time, we only take in new volunteers every couple of months. You can apply all year round though, and we’ll keep your application on file so when we’re looking for new people you’ll be right there on our list.

What kind of volunteer spots are available?
There are plenty of roles for volunteers to sink their teeth into at the station. These range from manning the front desk, working the music library, working in communications, event management, membership, sales and promotion, producing or presenting.
Most volunteers start out on our Frontline. As a Frontliner you’ll be the face of FBi – stationed at the front desk, greeting guests, answering phones, responding to emails, assisting with FBi admin and supporting the music library team. This gives you the opportunity to get an insight into the structure and roles available within the organisation while facilitating the day-to-day running of the station. If appropriate, after 3-6 months you may be provided with a chance to move into a new role and volunteers are encouraged to be proactive in seeking new opportunities within the organisation.
Getting involved at FBi will also expose you to opportunities to participate in broadcaster and producer training, production and other special projects.
How much time is involved?
We’re looking for volunteers that are able to commit to a regular day or regular half day each week for a minimum of 3 months. Ideally we are looking for volunteers who are interested in extending their involvement at the station beyond this.
