News: FBi Radio announces Daniel Ahern as new Program Director

October 31st 2017

FBi Radio is excited to announce the appointment of Daniel Ahern as new Program Director. Daniel is the third Program Director to be appointed since the station launched in 2003.

As Program Director, Ahern will be responsible for developing the sound of the station and for nurturing a pool of talent to add to an alumni network that includes Hannah and Eliza Reilly (ABC’s Growing up Gracefully); Linda Marigliano and Gen Fricker (Triple J) and A.H Cayley (Triple M) amongst hundreds.

Daniel has a strong understanding of Sydney’s musical and media landscape. He comes to the role having formerly been the Assistant/Acting Music Director at 2ser, a Law graduate who clerked at music and entertainment law firm Media Arts Lawyers and as a multi-instrumentalist signed to Sydney label Future Classic. He has worked as a journalist, researching media law for the Gazette of Law and Journalism, has edited for radioinfo, and reported for Richard Ackland’s Justinian.

All at the ripe old age of 24.

Daniel Ahern has been around radio since he was born, with his then station-manager father ensuring that his first and middle initials spelled “DJ”. His first radio show was as an 8-year-old, “broadcasting” through the halls and cafeteria of AFTRS. He brings a lived passion for independent local music, arts and culture to the role of FBi Radio Program Director.

FBi’s Managing Director Clare Holland states:

“I’m really excited to see what Daniel brings to the role. Throughout the selection process, he showed a sophisticated and exciting vision for what FBi should sound and look like in this shifting landscape. He’s young, creative, smart and talented – he embodies all the things FBi represents.”

Of the appointment, Ahern says:

“I couldn’t be more thrilled. FBi has been an important part of my life since giving me my first airplay as a 15-year-old. I will put everything I have into ensuring the station goes from strength to strength, continues to connect with its core demographic, and is adaptive to the ever changing media environment while staying proudly independent.”
Daniel Ahern will take the place of FBi Radio’s outgoing Program Director, Caroline Gates, and commences in the role on November 27.
