Listen to Oh Pep! live in the studio: acoustic versions of ‘Wanting’ & ‘Trouble Now’

Before they take off to conquer the world on a huge North American and European tour, Melbourne duo Oh Pep! made a pit stop to Sydney to chat with Alex Pye. Not carrying all their gear around for nothing, they gave a us two gorgeous live songs: ‘Wanting’ and ‘Trouble Now’.
Recorded on a frozen lake in Canada, their debut album Stadium Cake is something pretty special. The pair (Olivia and Pep) gave us an insight into that unique experience.
“It was all-consuming at the time. We were actually over there twice, so the first time we were there it was the middle of winter and everything was iced over and there was so much snow. There was a steep driveway and it was so dangerous to get into the studio. You would kind of walk out the door, plant your feet and slide down to the house. It was really, really full on – and as Australians, we hadn’t had much exposure to that.”
On working with Canadian producer Dan Ledwell, they explained:
“Dan was really great. We tracked the whole album, which we’d never done before on a recording. It meant we could kind of go crazy and use these incredible instruments and gear that he had there. So you can hear lots of keys and effected guitars and drum pads, which we were really interested in. He let us do that and really enabled it.”
Oh Pep! kick off their international tour in Baltimore on September 18, seeing them all the way through to a final show in Ireland on November 9. They’ll be joining The Mountain Goats and Basia Bulat in the US and Canada, with a run of solo shows in the UK. You can check out all the details at their website.
