On Wednesday Mornings this week, Lucy Smith caught up with Indigenous writer, performer and all-round powerhouse, Steven Oliver. He is known to most as the man behind Black Comedy, but as of this week he will also be renowned for his hosting prowess in Faboriginal, a deadly art game show at the Art Gallery of NSW.
Steven chats to Lucy about the inception of Faboriginal, as well as his experience using comedy to express himself as a gay Indigenous man. For Steven, comedy is a powerful vehicle to be taken seriously and, since funny things tend to get lodged in the the memory, it is also an effective way to get his message across.
Originally a tap dance teacher, Steven has shown flair, resilience, and skill navigating the creative landscape over the years. Today he is not just a performer, but a successful writer.
Faboriginal is on at the Art Gallery of NSW until July 18. You can expect art, good vibez, laughs, and very very very sexy art. His words, not ours. Get amongst it, fam.
