Independent Artist of the Week: The Kid Laroi

October 22nd 2018

With so much talent at such a young age, it’s hard not to get excited about The Kid Laroi

15-year-old South Sydney rapper The Kid Laroi is unphased by his young age, and determined to carve out his own identity through music. Conscious of being different to his school peers, Laroi finds escape from his troubles through his music. Earlier this year The Kid Laroi was named a triple j Unearthed High finalist for his track ‘Disconnect’. Since then, he’s supported Tkay Maidza, Manu Crooks, and THEY. His debut EP, ’14 With A Dream’, was released on his 15th birthday.

Laroi’s rapping bounces effortlessly between teenage angst and illicit street grit, although his single ‘Blessings’ focuses heavily on the former. Expect modern trap sounds beneath Soundcloud-inspired melodies, drawing on rappers like Lil Skies (with whom he has a forthcoming collab) and Trippie Redd. Produced by local rap staple Miracle, ‘Blessings’ makes the case for The Kid Laroi as one of Sydney’s most exciting hip hop prospects.
