Independent Artist of the Week: LIF

March 21st 2016

LIF2

It’s hard to describe Sydney producer LIF (aka. Felipe Cea) in just a few words. Unrestricted by genre and lyrics, LIF’s sound can best be articulated through the mood it evokes. It’s vibrant and playful and you’ll have flashbacks to childhood; jumping on inflatable castles and whooshing down a mega slide.

Felipe Cea is no stranger to the music scene. His musical career began with an alternative band in his early teens and then as a DJ in his early 20s. Cea fuses all of his experience to create a sound that is pure fresh air – wake up to his tunes each morning for the same effect as the caffeine in a cup of coffee.

The LIF new mini EP is an experience that channels what he understands of life, whether it’s through lyrics about a Korean barbeque dish or a song dedicated to his cat, Ivy. The more you listen, the more you’ll appreciate the aural creativity that is at play.

‘Yeah!’ is the star tune of the EP, the colourful sounds disguising that this was actually written in a very difficult time in Cea’s life. It’s clear this is a deceivingly meaningful pop melody, not to be taken purely at surface value. Delve a little deeper and you’ll find the complexity here – it’s well worth your attention.

Tune into Up For It every Monday morning to meet your new independent artist of the week!
