Fade Up :: Hayden James

September 2nd 2013

Hayden James

Every week, Fade Up sets you up on a hot date with an emerging homegrown artist who Sandro Dallarmi thinks are worth getting to know.

Sandro looks kinda funny and has little to no dating experience, but the conversation and soundtrack have already been provided through a quick interview and minimix from the featured artist, so give the guy a chance!

 ————

Not robotic but not quite human either, the music from this Sydney producer constantly surprises without ever disrupting the mood. And what a mood it is. Warped vocals crawl under your skin and make your loins tighten as the line blurs between love and lust. Hayden James crafts the type of melody that tugs at your heartstrings as it unbuttons your jeans.

Meet Hayden James

Sandro Dallarmi :: You seem to have popped up out of nowhere and made yourself immediately known with ‘Permission To Love’, but one listen to the track makes it clear that this isn’t your first time around the block. What led up to this point?

Hayden James :: Thanks. I’ve been producing and writing music for a few years. All different kinds of stuff from disco / house to hip hop, but this is my first solo project. I get to write what I like.

S :: This flowing, low tempo style of house music that you’ve put forward is pleasing a lot of people. Is it something you want to define yourself by with future releases?

H :: At this point I’m focusing on just writing songs and seeing what comes from it. I’m not really sticking to one genre per se. I think (I hope) my music is more based on telling a story, so that can mean a really chilled lo-fi style beat to an up tempo 150bpm energetic track. I enjoy the fact that I don’t have to stick to one specific style.

S :: This project is gaining moment very quickly, so you must be thinking about gigs, your live set-up, and of course new music. What’s next for you?

H :: It really is. I’ve just been added to the Listen Out festival (doing a DJ set) which I’m really excited about. I’m just getting my live show together at the moment. First live show is booked in late November  : )

I’m also writing a lot of new music and working on a few remixes that will be out soon, so that’s all keeping me pretty busy.
