FBi Presents :: Sounds Of The South

PRESENTED BY MEGAFAUN & FIGHT THE BIG BULL (USA) FEAT. JUSTIN VERNON & MORE

Exclusive to Vivid LIVE, FBi Presents a new community of folk-rock legends and breakthrough singer-songwriters join forces for a spellbinding concert delving into the legendary American songbook of famed folklorist, Alan Lomax.

Travelling far and wide for a big-band celebration of smoky storytelling and porch side songwriting, Vivid LIVE explores one of the most treasured American songbooks with friends and collaborators including North Carolina’s Megafaun, critically acclaimed jazz collective Fight the Big Bull, Grammy Award-winning Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon and a to-be-announced female vocalist. Born from a residency at Durham’s Hayti Heritage Center and raised by the freewheeling spirit of Bryce Dessner’s MusicNOW festival, this new artistic community have breathed new life into a highly revered collection of old-time hymns, deep delta blues and plaintive folk ballads.

The Sounds of the South tale begins in the summer of 1959, as pioneering archivist Alan Lomax embarked on a two month venture through Virginia, the Mississippi Delta and the Georgia Sea Islands to capture a landmark series of raw roots recordings. Now celebrating a decade since Lomax’s groundbreaking series saw reissue on Atlantic Records, a new generation of songwriters will pay tribute to this life-changing songbook with an exclusive series of Vivid LIVE performances.
