FBi Presents :: Bobby Womack

FBi Presents one of the last true legends of r ‘n’ b, Bobby Womack, making his Australian centre-stage debut with his 13-piece soul band.

Signed by Sam Cooke at 16, ostracised from the music community by 21, and now an inductee into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, r ‘n’ b soul legend Bobby Womack has seen and done it all in a career that stretches over 50 years and 28 studio albums.

Carrying a string of hit staples including ‘Across 110th Street’, ‘What Is This’, ‘It’s Gonna Rain’, The Rolling Stones’ chart breakthrough ‘It’s All Over Now’ and Wilson Picket’s ‘I’m in Love’ and ‘I’m a Midnight Mover’, Womack has proved to be one of the most enduring songwriters of his generation; writing and performing with the likes of Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and Sly Stone – as immortalised in his defining role on the 1971 funk masterpiece, There’s A Riot Goin’ On.

In one of the most extraordinary triumphs in popular music, Womack released his first album in a decade to universal acclaim, 2012’s electronic-soul opus The Bravest Man in the Universe. Recorded with Gorillaz collaborator Damon Albarn and XL Recordings’ Richard Russell, Womack has truly reaffirmed his status as one of the last survivors in a lineage of iconic singer-songwriters. Finally making his centre-stage Australian debut, Womack and his thirteen-piece band will bring a rare fervour to the House in the opening performances of Vivid LIVE 2013. As he sings on his eponymous return – ‘I’ve got a story I want to tell’…
