Canvas Live Broadcast – In Conversation: Embassy of Disappearance (20th Biennale of Sydney)

Date

24 April 2016

Time

11:00am - 12:00pm

Location

Carriageworks, foyer outside Biennale exhibition entrance

Join us at Carriageworks this Sunday for a special live broadcast of Canvas as part of the 20th Biennale of Sydney.

This year, the Biennale is inspired by the thought: The future is already here – it’s just not evenly distributed. This theme is explored across seven main venues, conceived as ’embassies of thought’. Carriageworks is one such venue: it is the ‘Embassy of Disappearance’.

This Sunday, artists Lee Mingwei, Jamie North and Lauren Brincat, exhibiting at the Embassy of Disappearance, discuss themes of absence, memory, and the economic realities of a world marked by rapid change and neoliberalist agendas.

While disappearance is often keenly felt as loss – from extinct languages, to fading histories and vanishing landscapes – this discussion tests the idea that disappearance might also have a more positive and generative power.

Join us for the discussion live, or tune in to hear it all on 94.5FM from 11am. More info here.
