Album of the week: May 21 – Courtney Barnett

May 21st 2018

In the space of a few years Courtney Barnett has evolved from Melbourne musical upstart into an internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter, with a reputation for searing live shows and uncompromising originality. On her second studio album Tell Me How You Really Feel, Barnett showcases her most powerful material to date, employing her observational wit to reflect on her rapid rise to stardom and the ensuing challenges that success has thrust upon her. The album sees Barnett’s stream-of-consciousness vocal delivery further refined, her sharpened tongue fully supported by her established backing band of Bones Sloane, Dave Mudie and Drones’ guitarist Dan Luscombe. On Tell Me How You Really Feel, Courtney Barnett finds strength in vulnerability, diving into introspection with her signature deadpan humour and unhinged musical style – cementing her place as one of the country’s great modern songwriters.
