Do you keep up to date with the news? Are you a politics buff? Do you want to develop your reporting skills? Backchat is on the hunt for new volunteer reporters.

ABOUT BACKCHAT

Backchat is FBi Radio’s news, politics and current affairs show, broadcast on Saturday mornings. We’ve got interviews, music and political discussions, and now we’re looking for reporters to produce radio packages. We’re after stories that connect with young people, that have been under-covered by the media, and from underrepresented communities/perspectives.

WE’RE LOOKING FOR REPORTERS WHO ARE:

Hungry to make stories
Crazy about news and politics
Comfortable talking to and listening to people
Looking for a challenge, to learn new skills and gain resume experience
Able to commit for at least 6 months, and produce 4-8 stories

Some radio and/or journalism experience is ideal but not essential. If you’ve got good ideas and are keen to learn the ropes we encourage you to apply.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Pitching stories to the Executive Producer
Writing and recording radio packages
Editing your packages using audio-editing programs
Conducting interviews
Researching stories and issues
Attending protests, talks and newsworthy events

If you need to build one or more of the above skills, we can provide training to fill skill gaps.

Previous experience in radio, journalism, news and/or politics (if any)
Why you want to volunteer at Backchat
An idea for a story you think is suitable for Backchat and who you would speak to for it
