From his bedroom in Melbourne to your ears, these are some of Sweetland’s favourite groovy house records.

  • Sweetland :: Winter '14 Residency :: May Mix

Last November, I introduced Sweetland as a Fade Up feature artist on The Mixing Bowl. Speaking about ‘Melbourne bounce’ music, the producer said “I want to try and do my part to bring out a new house culture in Melbourne so that in the future we’re known and respected for something better”, and the unreleased Sweetland tunes in this mix definitely speak to his conviction for achieving that goal.

Convictions aside, Sweetland is a pretty chill dude (as you’ll hear in his banter throughout the mix) and his music just as easily compliments a Sunday afternoon cider as it does a marathon DJ set in a darkened room. The first of the unreleased tunes, ‘Grip’, is moody without being sinister, just rolling on and on as clicks, snaps and cheeky chord stabs pop up left and right. Unfortunately you won’t be able to own it until later this year, but his set-closing Disclosure remix is available for free download as of this very second, so get on that.

You’ll be hearing more unreleased stuff from Sweetland in his next Winter Residency mix (aired first on The Mixing Bowl), but that won’t be til July 5 since we’ve still got guest mixes from fellow Winter Residents Stephane, Kun, and Chiefs to grace the airwaves first. For now though, sink into these groovy house vibes.
