Travis Baird is a busy man. In between guitar duties for Melodie Nelson, Sounds Like Sunset and Founder, the multi-instrumentalist has been chipping away at his second solo album under the moniker AFXJIM. We’re stoked to give you the first taste of audible fruit from this blossoming tree… a spacious, warm and delicately layered track called ‘Distant’. An understated joy that builds like a soft rain, ‘Distant’ nestles its way into your heart on the first listen.

Written and recorded almost entirely in his Sydney home, Travis says of the new record:

“I tried my best to play and record a bunch of the instruments that take up space in my house and then asked a few talented friends to add their own parts with little instruction or intervention from me. Samples were sourced from op-shop vinyl, world music and film, radio evangelists and field recordings collected from kindergarten classrooms to Costa Rican karaoke bars.“

It’s been a while between drinks for AFXJIM, with his debut record Blackout Music released in 2009. We’re pretty pleased to have his lush sounds back on the scene – keep an ear on Feral Media for new album details!
