Northern Lights 2012: Winners announced

You voted. We counted.

And now we can announce the winners of our 2012 Northern Lights competition (DRUM ROLL!)

MOON HOLIDAY AND LANTERNS

They’re in for the experience of a lifetime. Soon, they’ll be travelling to Iceland to play multiple gigs live in Reykjavik, collaborate with Icelandic musicians Samaris and Lay Low at the world renowned Greenhouse Studios, and experience one of the world’s most iconic music festivals, Iceland Airwaves.

Accompanied and supported by FBi’s Music Director Dan Zilber, Moon Holiday and Lanterns will get the chance to meet and greet international artists and draw inspiration from one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes.

Congratulations to our winners. Thanks to our finalists and to everyone who entered the competition or voted.

MOON HOLIDAY is the solo electronic project of Alex Ward, who’s spent the last couple of years honing her moody electronic sound – partly inspired by growing up in China. She’s collaborated with Flume and performed with Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Vivid Live.

LANTERNS is a dreamy bedroom project from multi-instrumentalist Ross James. He uses layered vocals, vintage synthesizers and intricate guitar effects to create catchy folk tunes with all the niceties of electronica.

Last year, Rainbow Chan and Oliver Tank had the honour of winning the inaugural Northern Lights. Here they talk about their experiences…
