This month, we sent Sydney band Middle Kids to Iceland as winners of FBi’s Northern Lights competition.

Taking out the top spot from a pool of 600 entries and some seriously talented finalists, Middle Kids earned the opportunity to perform at Iceland Airwaves Music Festival alongside PJ Harvey, Warpaint, Julia Holter, Kate Tempest, múm and more. They then got to spend time recording in Sundlaugin Studio – previously an abandoned swimming pool until Sigur Ros bought it, converted it into a studio and recorded their album ( ) there. And of course, sightsee at the Icelandic hot springs and frolick in the one of the most picturesque places in the world.

Despite a few hurdles – a lost bag and a lost voice – it’s safe to say they made the most of the experience! If you can handle the envy, check out the video and photos below. Keep an ear out for the music they recorded at Sundlaugin – coming soon.
