Mantra Collective: Crate Digging & Label Hunting with Molly (FR)

October 28th 2016

molly

Crate digging is an addictive business. French DJ and producer Molly knows this all too well – having spent much of her life hunting down rare records and uncovering precious new material. Her dedication pays serious dividends though – just ask anyone who’s experienced one of Molly’s expertly curated sets.

As a resident at the legendary Parisian Rex Club, Molly has established herself as one of the city’s brightest talents. She’s produced releases for labels such as Rekids, All Inn and Karlovak, and played an ever-expanding list of international festivals – including Amsterdam Dance Event and Awakenings (Holland) and Piknic Electronik (Canada). Now it’s Sydney’s turn!

This weekend, catch Molly and UK favourite Monika Ross at Mantra Collective‘s spooky Halloween party (full details below). To warm up, Mantra Collective have asked the French powerhouse for five labels she loves – and thinks you might too!

SOUL PEOPLE MUSIC

“Fred P is one of my favourite producers and every release on this label talks to me. Whether it’s the deep Raw cuts, techno with the Anomaly project or the Lapien stuff… all of it is a journey for me.”

UNDERGROUND QUALITY

“This is Jus-Ed’s label. I really love this guy ! He always gives so much love to everyone, and you can feel it in his music and the music he is releasing on the label. I love the way he manages his label and all releases are awesome.”

SMALLVILLE

Follow ’em

“I play lots of music from this label. The artwork of each release, the event and the label’s spirit are very smart and high quality.”

PLAYHOUSE

Follow ’em

“This label from M/S/O & ATA is timeless! You can listen to most of the old releases and they still sound very good.”

RUE DE PLAISANCE

Follow ’em

“This is a French label from my friends Varoslav and Marie Charlotte. I really love the artistic direction in all senses – obviously musically, but also the design of the label, from Cedric Virassamy. The releases are all illustrated, and each cover tells a story. It’s not common that labels care so much about the artwork. Rue De Plaisance always have really good ideas and all their releases are of a high quality!”
